Day 01: Arrive in Colombo, then go to Kitulgala and spend the night there

When you get to Bandaranaike International Airport, meet your private driver for a beautiful ride to the Kitulgala rainforest area. When you get there, have a guided stroll along the riverine forest paths to see the beautiful scenery and the many different types of birds. Your guide will give you a brief overview of local conservation initiatives and eco-friendly travel practices to set the stage for the rest of the trip. In the night, unwind in your eco-lodge, listening to the peaceful sounds of the jungle and getting ready for a full rainforest adventure.

Day 02: Trekking through the rainforest and discovering the jungle; staying the night in Kitulgala

Start your day with a guided hike into the Kitulgala jungle, where you may see native birds, insects, and plants along the way. Find out how the different parts of the ecosystem work together and why it’s important to protect these areas. After a picnic lunch by the river, take a slow walk along shady walkways to see more birds and take more pictures. In the late afternoon, go to a neighbouring rural eco-village to do traditional activities, have a home-cooked local meal, and interact with the residents to learn more about rural life.

Day 03: Drive to Dambana for the Vedda Indigenous Village Experience and spend the night there

Go to Dambana, where Sri Lanka’s native Vedda people live, to learn about their culture in a respectful way. Meet tribal elders and others from the village to learn about their way of life in the forest, their traditional crafts, and how they hunt. You may learn ancestral skills like tracking, foraging, and weaving while hearing stories that have been passed down through the generations. At night, gather around a community fire to share stories and learn about each other’s cultures. Listen to Vedda music and participate in rituals, then spend the night in Dambana or a local eco-lodge.

Day 04: Walk through the forest with Vedda guides and learn about conservation. Stay overnight near Dambana.

Start the day with a guided tour in the rainforest led by Vedda guides. They will teach you about edible plants, medicinal herbs, and old ways to survive in the jungle. Learn about traditional ecological knowledge and how to live sustainably via hands-on activities. Go back to the village for lunch and a time to think with other people from the community. In the afternoon, you may head to a neighbouring nature reserve for a trek or birding that focuses on conservation. You can see native species and hear about ongoing efforts to protect them. Spend the evening relaxing at a secluded eco-lodge, where you can hear the sounds of the forest and feel at peace.

Day 05: Leave through Colombo and get to the airport

After breakfast, go to a small traditional market or a holy rural temple for one last cultural encounter. Start the private ride back to Bandaranaike International Airport. You can stop at the Muthurajawela wetlands for a guided boat safari through mangrove canals to see birds, crabs, and reptiles. Leave with a better understanding of Sri Lanka’s rainforest ecosystems, indigenous history, and eco-friendly travel habits, as well as memories and cultural insights.
